The ancient world relied on Posca to quench the thirsts of people of all classes from aristocracy to peasants alike. The combination of salt, red wine vinegar, water and herbs made for a healthy, safe and replenishing drink that became ubiquitous throughout the Mediterranean and beyond. 

However, it was basic and quite harsh to drink.

Our recipe has been born from our founder, Merrick Watts’, passion for knowledge and history, having discovered the recipe for himself during his deep research into the history of wine through the ages. A qualified wine expert and a fitness nut, the story of Posca fuelling ancient armies intrigued him enough to give it a go - mixing it up on the kitchen bench and running physical trials to test effectiveness.

While Merrick’s very first batch of Posca Hydrate was of course legendary, it wasn’t yet perfect.

Undeterred he could see something in the simplicity of the ingredients – red wine vinegar (a natural hunger suppressant, rich source of antioxidant, and blood sugar regulator), mineral salts (a source of key electrolytes needed for hydration) and some basic natural flavouring (In ancient times this would have been honey and mountain herbs.)

Today we look to modern tastes, flavours and health trends that suit the sweet-sour nature of Posca and combine it with medical and scientific evidence to respect but improve on the ancient wisdom. 

It’s not just what has been put in to Posca that makes it great, it’s what has been left out. 

IN - Minerals and gut supporting vinegar. This drink is hypertonic. That’s a fancy way of saying it has shedloads of minerals to help rehydrate supported in combination with the vinegar.
